Young Wildcats drop two in season-opening tourney

The Seiling fifth and sixth-grade boys took part in Okeene’s Grade School Basketball Tournament last week, falling to both the Whippets and the Alva Goldbugs. It’s the first action of the season for the Wildcats who were coached by Principal Larry Milligan while Coach Gary Manuel continues to be focused on the football season.

In Seiling’s opening game against Okeene, the Wildcats were able to jump out to a one-point halftime lead against the Whippets. Four different Wildcats scored in the opening frame, but the single-point advantage wouldn’t last long in the second half.

The Whippets outscored Seiling 13-8 in the second half, thanks in part to Okeene’s point guard going off for nine points in the final frame to hand the Wildcats a 21-17 loss. Kason Whetstone led the scoring for Seiling with six points in the contest.
