Spring sports cancelled in response to COVID-19 pandemic
Last Wednesday the State Board of Education voted to continue the shutdown, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, through the end of the academic year for all school districts. In a corresponding move, the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association Board voted unanimously to cancel all sporting events for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.
In addition to all spring sports being cancelled, the OSSAA Board also chose to cancel all State Basketball Tournaments for the remaining classes that had yet to be completed. The OFBCA State Powerlifting Meet was also cancelled after originally being postponed to April 9 and 10.
For Seiling, the announcement means senior Payton Gregory will not get the opportunity to medal at the State Powerlifting Meet after narrowly missing out each of the past two years. He, and Korbin Elliott both qualified for the event in early March, but will not miss out on that opportunity.
