Powerlifters win regional; 4 qualify for state

Despite just their second full season of powerlifting competition, the Seiling Wildcats continued to make history Friday by claiming the Class B Northwest Regional championship at Bridge Creek High School.

While winning their classification crown, the Wildcats also qualified four lifters for the small school state meet, doubling their total of a year ago.

They notched 63 total points to outdistance second place Waukomis in the Class B team standings.

“I am really proud of the kids,” head coach Gary Manuel commented. “We have come an awful long way in just two years. Last year we took two guys to state and this year have four going.

“We won the Class B regional title because all of our kids contributed. We had a lot of guys score points, even though they might not have qualified, but that made a difference for the team. The kids have worked really hard this year and hopefully we can translate it over to the football field in the fall.”
