Lady Cats 14U softball team splits a pair in Elk City
The Seiling 14U softball team traveled to Elk City for a doubleheader against Merritt and Elk City last week. While the girls dropped the first contest to the Lady Oilers, the defeated the hometown Elkettes to move to 3-3 on the season.
In the opening matchup, the Lady Cats never could get their rhythm against Merritt. Walks and errors allowed the Lady Oilers to score 12 unanswered runs before Seiling could get on the board, and when the Lady Cats could only muster a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, the runrule came into effect.
Rainie Nelson reached base in both of her at-bats thanks to a pair of walks. Keirstin Briggs and Alli Hedges scored the only two runs in the contest for Seiling, and Briggs had Seiling’s only hit with a fourthinning single.
However, the Lady Cats bounced back in the nightcap against Elk City, as they jumped out to a big lead from the very start. Kenly Gore led the game off with one of her three singles in the contest and later scored to spark the Seiling offense right away.
