JH Lady Cats blowout Thomas in opener
After several delays dating back before Spring Break, the Seiling Junior High softball team finally hit the field for their first action of the season last Thursday. With the Thomas Lady Terriers in town, the Lady Cats combined 17 walks with seven hits for a 20-9 victory.
On top of the walks and hits, Seiling would also reach base on four Thomas errors, including a pair to produce the Lady Cats first two base runners. After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, Rainie Nelson and Gracie Stidham each reached on errors to lead off the bottom of the frame.
Kadence Griffin also reached on an error that would help score Seiling’s first runs, and while they didn’t have a hit in the first inning, the Lady Cats took a 5-1 advantage. Four walks in the top of the second would plate another run for Thomas to cut the lead to three.
After Seiling bounced back with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning, the Lady Terriers came up with a rally to put the Lady Cats down for the first time in the contest. Seven walks and two errors helped Thomas score six runs in the top of the third to take an 8-6 advantage.
