Woodward cattleman dedicates two decades to auction
Ever since Woodward Livestock Auction Inc. owner Jerry Nine was a small boy, he was interested in cattle. Those interests have grown into a reality as he has dedicated almost 20 years to the auction.
Nine said he used to go to cattle sales with his father growing up. He grew up on a farm in Northwest Oklahoma.
“I liked going to the sales with the young kids and I would pester my dad about buying cattle,” he said. “I was always more interested in the cattle.”
Nine worked on farms and at sale barns in Alva, Seiling and Woodward. He also studied agriculture at Oklahoma State University and Northwestern Oklahoma State University. After buying cattle for others, Nine said he started buying cattle full time in 1979.
Before buying the Woodward Livestock Auction in 2000, Nine thought about the purchase, but wasn’t sure if he wanted to dedicate that much time to the auction.
