Beef controversy continues as packers are still focus
While the cattle industry continues its rebound from two devastating blows in the past year, legislation and investigations to identify and remedy underlying concerns in the market are underway.
The Price Reform in Cattle Economies Act, or PRICE Act, introduced by a plethora of U.S. Representatives including U.S. Rep. Frank Lucas (R-Cheyenne), is set to address inequities in the cattle market by providing opportunity for small meat packing plants, more access to federal inspection and increased transparency in the industry.
“We have some problems in the present system, not just beef but in meat processing as a whole,” said Lucas. “The PRICE Act is going to try and look at the reports coming from USDA and examine what is really going on.”
