Holiday Cheer: Are Christmas light electric bills worth it?
Many people love to decorate their house for the holidays, hanging lights and adding inflatable decorations to their yard, but the same people are shocked when their electricity bill arrives in the mail.
One Pennsylvania resident had to pick her jaw off of the floor when her electric bill came one year after decorating her home with Christmas lights. According to Associated Press, Mary Horomanski received an electric bill for $284 billion. Yes, billion. Although it was a mistake and her actual bill was $284, it puts into perspective just how much people pay for holiday cheer.
Add the Christmas light bill to the heater bill, presents, food and other household expenses during this time of year and families can really break the bank in the name of Christmas. Also, with it getting darker earlier, electric bills are higher as people turn their lights on earlier and leave them on later.
