Don’t blame Trump, it all started with Bush v. Gore
Growing up I took an interest in history and government at an early age.
I both blame and thank my parents, teachers, and extracurricular activity leaders for that. Back in those days we called it civic responsibility. We called it leadership.
From 4-H and FFA, to student council, and later student government in college, being active in public policy was taught as a responsibility, not a burden or liability.
Partisanship was alive and well, but not to the tone of the nuclear charged environment we live in today, where at any moment everything seems like it could just blow up.
Nowadays, some people’s idea of civic responsibility and leadership is burning up police cars and destroying innocent people’s private businesses.
