Alkire receives “Women in American History” award

The Woodward DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) Chapter recently held an award ceremony for Florence Alkire of Seiling who was presented with the “2018 Women in American History” award. Earlene Alley the “2017 Women in American History” award recipient presented Florence with a certificate and lovely pin. Florence’s daughter Cindy Henderson and her son Wilbur Alkire and wife Gayla helped to congratulate Florence.

Florence Alkire is truly a respected icon in Dewey County. Florence is 94 and has been an active member of the Woodward DAR Chapter since 1970. Florence is also a member of the Mayflower Society.

One of her hobbies is painting. In 2011, Florence won 1st place in the NSDAR American Heritage competition with her watercolor painting of her homestead titled “The House That Grew”. Sadly, Florence’s 100 year old home was destroyed in the Rhea wildfire last year.
