Donald “Dean” Dorsett

Donald “Dean” Dorsett was born on Sept. 5, 1933 to James and Nora Dorsett at Lamont, OK. He passed from this life on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020. He attended Lamont High School where he was active in all sports, graduating with the Class of 1951. He was also baptized at an early age at the Lamont Christian Church. Following graduation, Dean attended Oklahoma A & M College in Stillwater. Dean joined the United States Air Force where he was an A/C mechanic at Kelly Air Force Base, TX during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge in 1953 he went to work for Boeing Air Craft as an air craft mechanic on the flight line for 3 years.

In 1958, he moved back to Lamont where he helped his father with the farming. Later that year, he married Joyce Sue Ailey from Tonkawa. To this union two daughters were born, Rhonda and Lisa Dorsett.

In 1961, he moved to Enid, OK where he went to work for the Howell Tire Company as a salesman where he worked for 16 years. During this time he was a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Central Christian Church. He ran the Kiwanis train at the Meadowlake Park and rang bells at Christmas for the Salvation Army.

He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and he helped with the Boy Scouts.

On Feb. 14, 1971 he became the husband of Betty Jo (Chapman) and the father of Shirley and David Galbreath. They resided in Enid until the loss of their daughter Lisa in 1979. The couple then moved to a farm south of Chester, OK. Dean farmed and ran the D&J Tire Business until 1984. He then went to work for Major County District 3 as a heavy equipment operator for 26 years. He retired in 2009 after the death of County Commissioner Bruce Elwell.

Shortly after moving back to Chester, he transferred his church membership to the First Christian Church of Seiling, where he was a member of the Church Board and served as a Deacon. He was also a member of the Seiling Fire Department Board.

In 1999, Dean and Jo became host parents to an exchange student, Olsi Halili from Albania. Olsi finished his senior year at Seiling High School and went on to graduate from UCO in Edmond. He is now married and lives in North Carolina. He is like a son to them. After that they hosted a girl, Maria Nikolova from Bulgaria, who also attended UCO. Dean kept in touch with both of them.

Dean was preceded in death by his loving wife Betty “Jo” Dorsett, daughter Lisa Dorsett, brother, Bill Dorsett, and many friends.

He is survived by his children, Rhonda Gray and husband Bob of Bartlesville, OK, Shirley Lanham and husband Larry of Arcadia, OK, and David Galbreath and wife Valerie of Wichita, KS; nine grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren; two exchange students, Olsi Halili and wife Hilda and Maria Azary; brother Bob Dorsett and wife Judy of Blanco, TX; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Dean will be held at the First Christian Church of Seiling at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, February 12, 2020. Burial will follow at Brumfield Cemetery.
